Carolyn Rogers Duke
Carolyn Patterson Duke (March 15, 1935 – April 29, 2022) was born in Ideal, Georgia. She moved to Smithville in 1952 when she married her husband Buford Duke, and shortly thereafter relocated to Albany where they built their life together.
Carolyn was known for her dedication to community service and education. She taught for over 30 years in the local school system, touching the lives of countless students. Her passion for music was evident in her long-standing membership in her church choir and her volunteer work teaching piano to underprivileged children.
As a pillar of her community, Carolyn organized numerous charity events and was particularly devoted to causes supporting women and children in need. Her warm smile and generous spirit made her beloved by all who knew her.
Carolyn passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Legacy
Carolyn’s impact continues through the Carolyn Duke Scholarship Fund, which provides educational opportunities for young women pursuing careers in education. Her collection of handwritten recipes has been compiled into a community cookbook that raises funds for local charities.
